Make sure your settings are correct.
pop3 server: mail.ltol.com
smtp server: mail.ltol.com
pop3 account: your username
password: your password
email address: your username
Windows 95, Microsoft Exchange: This is usually because you haven't
"delivered" your mail to the internet. Tools -> Deliver
Now will deliver the mail from your outbox to the internet, and retrieve new mail
from the internet and deliver it to your inbox.
Open your outbox, and verify the status of your outgoing mail. If the words in the
subject column are italicized, then your mail is ready to go. If the words are not
italicized, then you must open the message, and click SEND. Then click Tools->Deliver
Now and your mail should go.
Two causes for this.
#1 - The modems have ceased to communicate. When you click to view a webpage, notice if
your modem lights flicker. If you see nothing, then disconnect and dial in again.
#2 - You may not have actually got online. Sometimes under Windows 95 or 98, the
connection process is bypassed, and the Internet Explorer and/or Netscape simply open a
cached page, or the standard blank page. Go to Dial-Up Networking and double click on the
Lake Tahoe On Line connection.
OK, this usually happens due to incorrectly entered DNS numbers. Open the My
Computer Icon...Open the Dial-Up Networking Icon...Select your Lake Tahoe On Line
connection (single click)...click File->Properties.
Once in the Properties, click the Server Types button. Once on the Server Type
screen, verify that the only checked boxes are "enable software compression"
& "tcp/ip". Next, click the TCP/IP Settings button. Verify that the DNS
addresses are entered - 216.103.182.7. Setting it to "Server Assigned"
should work.
Dial in phone number: (530) 587-3669 or (530) 582-2082 (for problem
connections)
Domain: ltol.com
DNS address: 216.103.182.7
SMTP & POP3 mail server: mail.ltol.com
Set up your dialer to connect to a local provider.
Option 1: Use our new WebMail feature
> using any browser, go to http://mail.ltol.com.
Log in using your
user ID and password.
Option 2: Set up your email settings as follows:
> email address = your ltol email address (username)
> pop account = your ltol username
> pop account password = your ltol password
> incoming pop3 server = mail.ltol.com
>outgoing smtp server = mail.ltol.com
You need to change your settings in DIAL-UP NETWORKING. Open the My Computer
Icon...Open the Dial-Up Networking Icon...Select your Lake Tahoe On Line connection
(single click)...click File->Properties.
Click on the SERVER TYPES (tab or button). Make sure that only the following two
(2) boxes have checks in them. ENABLE SOFTWARE COMPRESSION & TCP/IP. If any other
boxes have checks, remove the checks, and click OK.
You can set any website on the internet as your home page, no matter who you local
provider is. This is done by clicking View->Options, then
click on the Navigate tab. You should see an entry for your
Start Page, simply change this to http://support.ltol.com.
You can simply visit each search engine (Yahoo, Infoseek, etc.), they will have an
option to "Add your URL". Simply go through the procedure to list your URL with
that specific search engine.
There are companies on the web that provide this service. For a fee from $50.00 up
to $500.00 they will add your URL to multiple search engines. Some of these services will
offer quarterly or yearly updates. Lake Tahoe On Line has used Traffic Boost for these services, you might
want to check them out.
There are many programs that you can purchase that help you control where your
kids can go on the net. CyberPatrol is probably
the most popular, but there are others. You should evaluate the different options to
determine which software package best suits your needs.
