Dirty Moe's life began in a small town in the Southeast sometime before the great Civil War.  Moe, born Morris "Moe" Johnston, was the seventh child of a sharecropper's family.

Moe was a young man as he made tracks West to start his new life after butting heads with his parents.  As he traveled from town to town getting into scuffles along the way, he had to learn quick how to cover his back.  Although he never talked about it much, he spent a little time in the Yuma Territorial Prison.

After his early release for good behavior, Dirty Moe decided to clean up his act (no pun intended) and landed a cowpoke position on a ranch in Indian Springs, Nevada.  After a time, he opened up a saloon to keep his rambunctious wife, Lizzie, busy during the day.  Over the years Dirty Moe built up a little roadside station for travelers today. A Motel, RV Park, and general store with a modern filling station is available for all your highway needs -- Moe even takes credit cards. So, whether you're planning to spend the night or just passing through, take a moment and find the unforgettable name and legend of Dirty Moe lingering within Indian Springs.

All our guests are invited to read about Dirty Moe in the Springs Gazette, available for free at the Springs Cafe, located inside the Indian Springs Casino. The casino has also issued over the years a collection of limited edition commemorative poker chips to honor the man.
